Shadows from an Unlit Room

Opening July 18th, 5:30-8PM

Fine Art Editions Lexington is pleased to announce the opening of Patrick Smith: Shadows from an Unlit Room – a contemporary art exhibition featuring new work from realist painter Patrick Smith with a concurring exhibit from photographer John S. Hockensmith. The show will open Thursday, July 18th, 5:30PM – 8:00PM, and run through August 17th. The gallery is open to the public Tuesday-Saturday from 1:00PM – 5:30PM, or by appointment at 190 Jefferson St.

Patrick Smith is one of the most inventive realist artists/painters since Chuck Close. He resides in Lexington, Kentucky, and has gained recognition for his finely honed painting skills and an uncanny ability to capture idiosyncratic portraits of intimate moments. Smith creates artistic impressions of his close friends in revealing and dynamic contexts. This New Jersey-born artist significantly influences the Lexington avant-garde art scene and will someday extend his voice into national and international art conversation.

John S. Hockensmith’s Shadows Under the Big Top is a collection of artistic compositions from Circus Flora, a one-ring sawdust circus located in Saint Louis. Hockensmith’s color canvases acknowledge subconscious states of the imagination, viewed through the artist’s peripheral vision. This black and white portfolio contrasts the literal compositions that often accompany circus performers, while employing imaginative perspectives and rich concepts of the sublime.
